Fried apple pies are a southern delicacy made with leftover buttermilk biscuit dough. The dough is special it’s not those big cat head biscuits that the south is famous for, its a special thin and tender treat that is from the East Smokey mountain region. Kneaded dough filled with apple pie filling and fried in a small cast iron skillet one at at time, my Granny Winifred made the best ever.

Recently I came across her handwritten recipe for her biscuits and on the back she had written the recipe for her fried pies!! It was like winning the lottery for me.

I had made a batch of candles and wasn’t sure what they’d be, one of those “Throw all the oils in” batches. It smelled great when I made it but I was sure it was going to cook into something different. A blend of Granny Smith, spices, brioche, butter and sugar with a few spare secret oils.

The next morning after having dreamed about Granny all night I woke to the smell of her fried pies and ran to the kitchen thinking Gabe had used her recipe to surprise me. To my disappointment, they joy it was the candles I’d blended the night before.

Now we have both the recipe (which I’ll include with each candle) and the no calorie, no work candle!

This hand blended candle is married with pure soy wax made from responsibly grown Midwest soy beans and lit with patented Lumetique wicks with booster wick. These candles provide a robust crackle and clean, even burn every time they are lit.

We hand make our candles from the very beginning to the final touches. Our scents are custom blends added to Midwest soy wax flakes and cooked at the perfect controlled temperatures. We even control the cooling to create the perfect frosting on our candle finishes. Finally we trim the wicks and add our own labels we print in shop. We control every step of the process to ensure the perfect illumination every time and consistency of fragrance.

This candle is infused with natural essential oils, including vanilla and rum.

Frequently Asked Questions

My wick is difficult to light, or won’t stay lit the first few times.

The wick is too far above the surface of the wax when the candle is initially lit – Solution: Make sure the wick is trimmed to be no longer than 1/4” – 3/16” / 6.4mm – 4.8mm above the wax. This is counterintuitive, as we think a longer wick will make a larger flame, but it will not. The longer the wick, the harder it is for the wax to flow up to the top.

Are Soy Candles Safe?

Now let’s talk about wax. Unless you are eating your candles (which you shouldn’t be) you don’t need to worry about them being produced with “Organic Soy wax”. This is good because organic soy wax doesn’t exist.

The process of converting the oil into a wax itself renders the wax ineligible for organic certification. Even if a manufacture used the 5-9% of soybeans grown in the USA that are Organic Bean, the process itself makes them not organic.
Should you worry about this? The simple answer is no, soy wax is safe.

You should worry about a company that claims their soy candles are organic.
We use wax made with only Midwest Grown Soybeans.

Order arrived in record speed and came with several extras. The fried apple pie candle smells more like a caramel apple, but there's nothing wrong with that!
