Why I Choose Phthalate-Free Fragrances for Every TLSL Candle
Phthalates are a group of chemicals used as fragrance fixatives in personal care products. Phthalates are often referred to as "everyday chemicals" because they are widely used in various consumer products, including cosmetics, food packaging, and building materials. Exposure to phthalates can occur through ingestion, inhalation, or skin absorption.
Recent 2023 research showed that switching to phthalate-free products for just 28 days reduced harmful chemicals in participants' bodies AND decreased cancer-related gene expression¹. Phthalates are endocrine disruptors linked to: • Hormonal imbalances² • Reproductive health issues³ • Cardiovascular problems⁴ • Developmental concerns⁵
I've been handcrafting phthalate free candles for 25+ years, I'm a registered Nurse and I used to suffer terribly from Migraines. I take the science seriously. I spent years researching causes and cures for my migraines. During this research I read about a chemical group called phthalates. At the time (late 1990's) they were on top of the list for suspected migraine triggers. I was burning lots of commercial candles in the hopes of relaxing myself and setting a chill space.
That was the beginning of Teresa Lynn's Simple Luxuries. I started making candles at that time to control what was in them. It was very difficult to find fragrance blends that were phthalate free at that time. That is where all of my unique blends began, I discovered I could find single notes in phthalate free fragrance oils, blend them with essential oils and get very complex scents that were still safe!
That's exactly why every candle I pour to this day uses only phthalate-free fragrances.
Your home should be your sanctuary, not a source of hidden health risks. When you light a TLSL candle, you're getting pure soy wax, crackling wooden wicks, and fragrances that smell amazing WITHOUT compromising your wellbeing.
